We are heading to Costa Rica this summer so our spring break trip needed to be more low-key and budget-friendly. We wanted to go someplace that we could drive to, but we felt like we had already covered pretty much everywhere that we want to go in driving distance north, east, and south of Charlotte. So we looked west! We have been to the NC mountains many times but have never ventured past Asheville. So we checked out a map and decided that the Great Smoky Mountains and Nashville would make a perfect road trip.
My parents joined us, making the long drive from NJ. We headed to Nashville first, spending 3 nights there, and then made our way back towards Charlotte, stopping for 3 nights in Pigeon Forge to check out Dollywood and the Great Smoky Mountains.
