Hotel Villa Steno Review

Hotel Villa Steno is a family-run hotel high in the hills of old town Monterosso.  I can’t say enough about this hotel.  We absolutely loved it.  Finding it and getting up to it were a bit of a challenge, but it was well worth it.  Built high up in the hills with a commanding view over old town, the grounds were covered with beautiful flowers and the air was filled with the smell of the lemons and oranges that grew in their gardens.

Fourteen of the sixteen rooms in the hotel have a balcony.  When we originally booked, a non-balcony was the only room available.  We booked it and were put on a waitlist for a balcony.  Luckily one became available so we were able to upgrade. Our room was not especially fancy but a good size, nicely decorated, and spotlessly clean.

The owners, Matteo and Carla, were gracious hosts, always there for friendly assistance or simply to chat.  After checking in and settling into our room, we were given a complimentary glass of wine and some snacks to enjoy on their amazing terrace.  The views of the sea over the town were incredible.

The breakfast room and its balcony had a similarly amazing view and amazing food to go along with it.  The buffet had many homemade pastries, as well as delicious fresh preserves (orange, lemon, and apricot) made with fruit from their own garden.  And because you are on vacation (and doing a lot of hiking!), don’t feel guilty about having their freshly baked chocolate or lemon cakes for breakfast too.

All in all this was a wonderful hotel and would be a great choice for families as well.  There were a handful of children there and the staff seemed to go out of their way to make sure they were happy and had what they needed.  Even with all those stairs, I know my boys would love a stay here!
